THE RIDGE

Balancing Privacy, Connection, and Views

The Ridge project transforms an existing residence through a comprehensive remodel and addition, designed to take advantage of its prominent position overlooking the Los Angeles basin. By lifting the roofline and expanding openings, the envelope dissolves the threshold between the interior and exterior. The result is a home that feels less like a series of enclosed rooms and more like a sequence of curated vantage points, integrated with a continuous exterior space that runs the full length of the property.

The design is rooted in the indoor-outdoor connection. Interior layouts have been reorganized to prioritize flow and visibility, ensuring that communal spaces along the perimeter of the home offer a unique connection to and perspective of the exterior landscape. Spaces are layered to offer more privacy away from the perimeter toward the central circulation path. In this way, the new floor plan balances openness and functional separation, enhancing the overall usability of the home, connecting to the exterior, and creating a more intuitive transition between communal and private spaces.

Materials include a refined palette of natural stone, warm wood, and durable exterior pavers that unify the indoor and outdoor areas. Complementing the architecture, the landscaping has been reorganized to provide a variety of distinct, usable outdoor areas. Whether for quiet reflection or large-scale entertaining, the project elevates the site's natural beauty and views through thoughtful design interventions and materials.
